Extravagant Love

Extravagant Love

This month I'm thinking about love more than usual.

Not the commercial obligatory Valentine-y kind driven by the sales of chocolate, roses & Hallmark cards, but the REAL, tangible, palpable kind of love that is so generous and surprising it stops you in your tracks.

We can see glimpses of this kind of love through other people. Have you ever had someone bless your socks off with some kind of generosity you didn't expect, couldn't possibly reciprocate, and wouldn't have ever asked for?

Yes, I've been there too. It is a humbling moment to accept such generous love. It often makes sense to try to reject it because we haven't earned it, don't feel worthy of it, and can't wrap our minds around it.

Imagine the most loved you've ever felt or the most love you've ever received, then multiply that times a gazillion.

That is how much God loves you.

Yes, YOU.

He loves you so much, He was thinking of you before you even existed.

"You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" Psalm 139:16-18

He loves you so much,  He has incredible plans for your life and doesn't want to keep them a secret from you.

"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." Jeremiah 29:11-13

These are interesting times we are in. They look very different than they ever have before, and in my conversations with people I meet, I am finding that many people are surprised to learn that God loves them unconditionally and He still has a plan for their lives.

I want you to know the truth, too. The God who created the universe absolutely loves you, thinks about you, and planned things specifically just for you.

Can you just soak that thought in for a moment?
He'll love you always, just like He always has. His love is purely a gift given by Him meant to be received and accepted.

There is so much I want to tell you about the unfathomable extravagant nature of God's love for you. I could fill the pages of a very long book about this topic and so many already have.

For now, the most important thing for you to know, if you didn't know already,  is there is nothing you've done to deserve it, and there's not anything you can do to ruin it.

Just receive it, accept it, thank Him for it, and be amazed by it!

"This is real love- not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins." 1 John 4:10
